Works Council Training for International Teams

Practical training in the Works Constitution Act (BetrVG) for works council members, HR professionals and executives. We cover co-determination, the duties of the works council and how employers and works councils can cooperate within German law. The training suits companies whose staff come from different countries and legal cultures.

The trainer is a native English speaker with many years of practical experience. Sessions take place nationwide or online and are adapted to your group’s level and needs.

Why train in English?

Why does BetrVG training in English matter?
The BetrVG and most works council documents are in German. Members who are not fluent in German often struggle to judge their rights and duties. Training in English gives them the working knowledge to take part fully in the council’s decisions.

Who is it for?
Works council members, HR professionals and managers in companies with an international workforce or a foreign parent company.

Why is a translation of the law not enough?
Terms such as Mitbestimmung, Betriebsvereinbarung or Einigungsstelle have no exact English equivalent, and literal translations often change the meaning. We explain each term alongside the German original, so participants can follow German documents and meetings.

Which problems does it help prevent?
Misunderstandings between works council and employer about participation rights, deadlines and procedure. These tend to cause disputes and delays.

Who pays for the training?
The employer generally bears the cost of training that the works council needs for its work (§ 37 (6) and § 40 BetrVG). Whether English-language training counts as necessary depends on the make-up of your council, and the council must pass a resolution. Please have your individual case checked by a legal adviser.

Indirect daylight through frosted windows casts soft, consistent illumination with barely-there shadows, emphasizing the board's textured matte surface. The image is sharply focused with a shallow depth of field, foregrounding clarity and education in a contemporary, structured setting, perfect for a professional learning website.
